Where will your retirement money come from?

If you’re like most people, qualified-retirement plans, Social Security, and personal savings and investments are expected to play a role. Once you have estimated the amount of money you may need for retirement, a sound approach involves taking a close look at your potential retirement-income sources.

Retirement may bring liberation from some responsibilities, but will bring new ones.

Retirement may bring liberation from some responsibilities, but will bring new ones.

Planning for this exciting chapter of your life requires attention to ensure you don't fall into pitfalls due to lack of preparation.

At Treece Financial Group, we take a holistic approach to analyzing all aspects of your finances, insurance, and healthcare coverages to make sure you are covered no matter what path you take.

Here are some critical questions to ask yourself as you think about your retirement:

What is my overall retirement vision?

The point of answering this question is to get to your underlying value system and define what’s really important in your life.  Some businesses are encouraged to come up with a guiding mission statement.  Your personal retirement vision statement is much the same thing.

What is my retirement to-do list?

When you retire, it is unlikely you will just do one thing like travel.  Instead, you are likely to do many things. What kids of things will you do?  What is your retirement to-do list?  Some call it a bucket list. Some call it the dream list. Whatever it is, this list can be a great foundation for setting future goals.

What about work will you miss when you retire?

If you left work today, what would you miss? The people? The money? The challenge? The prestige? If you are going to miss the people at work, then it may be important to develop social activities with others during retirement. And, remember, not every wants to retire. Feel free to explore what it would look like if you keep working for an extended amount of time, went back to school or training, or even changed to another late-in-life career.
